Preparing for a Challenge

posted Mar 13, 2017, 11:06 AM by Joseph Kardash   [ updated Mar 21, 2017, 9:30 AM ]

For the past few years Colton-Pierrepont has been recognized for leading the county and much of the state in assessment participation. This continues to be a great point of pride for our small school. We hope to continue working together to build on that sense of COLT pride!

We are also excited that NYS now allows us to utilize computer based testing. Our students have been learning with computers for years and are more than ready to lead the state in this change.

We have always known testing is not the be-all and end-all, but it does provide an opportunity for a teachable moment: to prepare our students for challenges they will face on a daily basis. Please encourage your child to do his/her very best. A consistent message from the school and from home considering preparedness for challenges can serve as a valuable life lesson.

Some of our tried and true methods for test preparation are:
- Encourage your child to get into a nighttime routine a week before the exams.
- Have a consistent bedtime and gaining a good night’s sleep will ensure that your child has the energy and stamina to do his/her very best.
- Have a good nutritious breakfast the day of the exams. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
- Promote exercise the day before and the day of the exam will help prepare your child to be in his/her best possible mindset when testing.

To promote our positive atmosphere, we will continue our themed days that were created by our students and teachers. It seemed to provide a boost of energy for the building and certainly resulted in plenty of smiles.
