Last week the bigs toured one of the Murray's maple tree farms! While we were there, we learned all about the process of tapping trees, the different types of maple trees and how they can be identified by leaf structure. We also learned how buckets once collected the sugar but now there is a network of blue tubing that collects the sap and how much work is put into collecting sap then making maple syrup. We were lucky enough to be able to taste maple sugar that is created when all of the water is evaporated from the sap!

We also learned that depending on the various temperatures the sap is warmed up to, we can create different things such as maple cream, candy, and syrup. After our trip, we measured ingredients by manipulating fractions to make pancakes. We even used some of the Murray's maple syrup on top of our pancakes that was donated by the Murray's! We wanted to give a big thanks to Miss Andrews and Kyle Murray and his family for such a wonderful learning experience in our own community!
