Rod Thomas Memorial Soccer Camp Scholarship

posted May 31, 2016, 10:03 AM by Joseph Kardash

Coach Thomas produced multiple championship teams while coaching both boys and girls at CPCS.  These teams were motivated by his enthusiasm for athletic competition, his team philosophy, and his deep concern for each individual player.  They were successful because of the excellent skills and game preparation strategies he taught.

As the CPCS girls’ soccer coach, he led his team to multiple league, sectional, and intersectional titles.  During his ten year career as the boys’ soccer coach, his team won three sectional, two intersectional and one state regional title.  In 2006, Coach Thomas and the soccer team made history by winning the first state championship in school history and the first outright state championship in Section X boys’ soccer.

Those at the Rod Thomas Memorial Soccer Camp Scholarship are proud to announce that four students will be chosen this year to attend the “Lake Placid Soccer Centre” summer camp hosted by St. Lawrence University.  Three students chosen for the scholarship will be fully funded to attend the “Day Camp” session of their choice from either July 17-July 23 or July 24-July 30. One student will be chosen to attend the overnight camp experience held on those same dates.

Coach Thomas always stressed the importance of three things to his players and students: head, heart, and honor. Please write 3-5 sentences each about why these three things are important in life and how each has meaning for you.  You can use lessons that you learned as a soccer player, as a student, or as a member of the Colton community. Head (3-5 sentences)  Heart (3-5 sentences)  Honor (3-5 sentences)

*Please hand in completed scholarship application with name and week you can attend soccer camp to Mr. Bogart by Friday, June 10.

**Recipients of the Rod Thomas Memorial Soccer Scholarships will be announced at graduation on June 24, 2016 at 7:00 pm.
