On Wednesday, April 24th, our 8th-grade ladies visited Corning as part of their CHOICES program. To help young women begin to consider their career options, Corning’s CHOICES program hosts a day for local middle school girls to visit and take part in workshops and conversations about what future jobs they might one day have. Participating in mock interviews and career planning situations, the students gain exposure to numerous fields such as security, robotics, media, finance, legal, culinary services, and 3D printing.

Hello, Last week, the BOE approved the following “give back” days for unused emergency days (snow days). Students will not have school on the following days: Monday, April 8, 2024 Friday, May 24, 2024 Wednesday, June 26, 2024 NASA and the Adirondack Observatory have graciously provided solar eclipse glasses for students at CPCS to utilize during the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. We do have extra glasses at school. Please reach out if you need any. Here is a great 3-minute clip from St. Lawrence University Physics Professor Aileen O’Donogue, shedding some “light” on what to expect with this solar eclipse. (https://www.stlawu.edu/total-solar-eclipse-2024) The following information serves as a helpful guide for students and their families on the safe procedures for viewing the eclipse. These safety procedures will be thoroughly reviewed in classes during the week leading up to Spring break. To view the eclipse, we recommend eclipse-viewing glasses. These specially designed glasses are equipped with a solar filter that reduces the sun's intensity to safe levels for your eyes. A key indicator of safe eyewear is if they are labeled: ISO 12312-2. ● Always inspect your eclipse-viewing glasses before use. If scratched, punctured, or otherwise damaged, please discard them. Read and follow any directions printed on them. ● Always supervise children using eclipse-viewing glasses. ● If you normally wear eyeglasses, keep them on. Place the eclipse-viewing glasses in front of them. ● Stand still and cover your eyes with the eclipse-viewing glasses before looking up at the bright sun. When done viewing, turn away from the sun, lower your head, and then remove the eclipse-viewing glasses. NEVER look directly at the sun without proper eyewear. ● Do not look at the uneclipsed, partially eclipsed, or annularly eclipsed Sun through an unfiltered camera, binoculars, telescope, or any other optical device. ● Similarly do not look at the Sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars or any other optical device while wearing your solar viewers. The concentrated solar rays could damage the filter and enter your eyes, causing serious and permanent damage. ● Seek out expert advice from an astronomer before using a solar filter with a camera, telescope, binoculars, or other optical devices. Please note that solar filters must be securely affixed to the front of the objects mentioned above. School is closed Friday, March 29 through Monday, April 8th. School resumes on Tuesday, April 9th. We hope everyone has a relaxing Spring Break. Mr. Nee Superintendent
