Today we had an unexpected fire drill experience. Our fire alarms were activated by an overcooked breadstick in a microwave. All students and staff followed protocols and were accounted for in minutes. We are back to business as usual.

Mr. Bogart’s 8th Grade Social Studies class recently completed their Immigration Project. Students did research on a number of different groups who made their way to the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries. Students learned about push and pull factors that brought immigrants to America, what their home countries culture looked like, and what types of culture characteristics they brought to America.

New York State Comptroller’s office releases fiscal stress report On Jan. 25, the New York State Comptroller’s office released its annual Fiscal Stress Monitoring System report, referencing the Colton-Pierrepont Central School District. The report reviewed the finances of all school districts in New York for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2022. CPCS has been designated as “a district susceptible to fiscal stress.” CPCS was also given this designation the year before. When assigning these designations, the State Comptroller's office has a formula that considers various factors. While their formula did not determine that the district is under significant fiscal stress, it did determine that the district was susceptible to fiscal stress. The state looked at the district’s “liquidity,” or the amount of cash it has on hand, and the district’s “unassigned fund balance,” or cash without an assigned purpose. The district has developed a long-term fiscal plan that includes funding a building project to replace an aging heating system, maintaining/improving educational programs, and hiring the best possible workforce for our students, all without taking on increased debt. To meet these goals, the district invested many of its unassigned funds in a district Capital Reserve at the end of the fiscal year. Community members and families with questions are invited to contact School Business Administrator Dale Munn or Superintendent Jim Nee by calling 315-262-2100. They would be happy to have a conversation with anyone who has questions about this topic.
